First ask what is being counted

A character counter is useful only when its counting rule fits your task. What looks like one symbol on screen can contain several Unicode code points. A social platform, database or form may impose a different limit. This guide explains the AGMAD counter’s rule, not every destination’s rule.

Try an Arabic sample

Open AGMAD Word and Character Counter and enter مرحبا بالعالم. The current version 1.0.0 engine reports 2 words, 13 code points including the space, and 12 excluding whitespace. It reports one line and a one-minute reading estimate. We checked those values against the local engine.

مرحبا بالعالم → 2 words / 13 code points / 12 without whitespace
أَ → 2 code points
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 → 7 code points / 0 words

The sample مرحبا بالعالم has two words and 13 code points, including the space. Code points are not always visible characters.

Add a combining mark

Try أَ: the letter أ followed by the vowel mark. It has 2 code points even though the mark belongs visually with the letter. A displayed unit and a code point are different concepts. The counter does not claim to segment user-perceived characters, often called grapheme clusters.

Try a joined emoji

The family emoji 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 has 7 code points in the verified sample and counts as 0 words. Four person symbols and three joiners form a single visual sequence on supporting systems. A high character count is not necessarily a bug; it may be the expected result of the stated counting method.

Understand words and lines

The engine recognizes Unicode letters and numbers, with combining marks and internal apostrophes or hyphens. This is a practical word-count rule, not a linguistic analysis of every language. Line endings are normalized to LF before counting; spaces and line breaks affect the code-point total. Input is limited to 100,000 UTF-16 units.

Treat reading time as an estimate

Reading time uses 200 words per minute, rounded up. A short nonempty sample therefore shows one minute. It is not a measured reading speed, video duration or promise about how quickly someone will understand the text. Technical material, narration and different readers need different pacing.

Check the actual destination

For a platform limit, test the destination’s own counter before publication. Keep a small sample with Arabic, marks, spaces and emoji when comparing systems. The inspected tool counts locally in the browser without uploading the input; page loading and device clipboard behavior have their own boundaries.
